Get a Brighter Smile Just in Time for Summer!

When you think about your most noticed feature, what comes to mind? Turns out, patients remember people’s smile more than any other feature. So, if you want your smile to be as bright and white as possible for your upcoming vacation, wedding, or graduation, you’ll have a lot to gain through our Opalescence Teeth Whitening system this summer!

Don’t worry if you’ve never had teeth whitening done before. Your dentist is prepared to give you the facts on whitening so you can feel comfortable and confident while achieving your new smile! In this month’s newsletter, we’ll discuss how whitening works and what you can expect with our available options!

The Proceses of Teeth Whitening

We understand that whitening has become a concern for some patients, but your dentist assures you that all professional whitening systems are safe for your enamel and teeth overall. This is because the whitening agents Opalescence utilizes aren’t actually targeting the enamel itself.

While whitening toothpastes and over-the-counter whitening systems can remove surface stains from enamel, they fail to penetrate it and reach long-term stains patients have had for many years. The whitening gel we use also contains more substantial ingredients, usually either carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide. Once the gel contacts your teeth, it penetrates through your enamel and towards the next layer, known as the dentin. This is where the more substantial, intrinsic stains lie.

Oxygen molecules inside the gel react with the discolored molecules in teeth, breaking the bonds that hold them in the process. As the oxygen molecules spread throughout the tooth, it whitens it, leaving patients with a smile several shades whiter.

What to Expect With In-Office Whitening

If you’re vacation is coming up soon and you don’t want to worry about your smile in future photos, then in-office whitening can give you results in a single visit. After Dr. Davis completes your initial consultation, she can build a comprehensive treatment plan specifically for your discoloration.

The whitening is done in a safe and controlled environment, meaning we can actually control the exact concentration of bleaching agent used. We also use rubber barriers to protect your lips and gums. This reduces irritation and sensitivity; no exposure to chemicals or leaking will occur in-office.

Whether you choose a 15-, 30-, or 45-minute treatment time, you can expect a smile that is several shades whiter in less than an hour!

How Take-Home Kits Whiten on Your Own Time

If you’re summer schedule gets in the way of visiting, there’s always a take-home solution. Your dentist loves the fact that these whitening trays are customized to your smile exactly, meaning the whitening gel can’t escape when in use. This makes a big difference because it leaves very little room for error and gives a far more predictable result compared to OTC whitening kits. This option is also ideal if you expect to have a lot of downtime traveling in a car or on a plane.

The process is simple. Just apply the gel inside the trays, place them in your mouth every day for a certain period of time, and repeat for about two weeks. In a few days, you’ll notice stubborn stains start to fade and a whiter smile will appear!

Discoloration Happens, But You Can Fix it!

Drinking coffee, wine, and eating dark-colored foods can really take a toll on teeth. Even if you avoid staining substances, enamel wears down as you age, exposing the dentin layer underneath. If you don’t have the smile you want for photos, or you just wish it was whiter and brighter during your outings, you can make the change quickly and easily.

The damage has been done, so let us help you prepare your summer right.  We can’t wait to hear how your next vacation goes after undergoing teeth whitening with us!
